I think your friend has made the best decision.
I bought Techguy that AXE the 30th of July. Two or three days after I paid him I still hadn't any news about him. When I wrote he told he was on holidays and he couldn't ship it until a week later.
I wait a week and I wrote him again and then he told me the following:
"Finally I get back home from the vacation, but there is a little problem, I left my Mark II at my friend who runs a local instrument shop in my city, He wanted to try and show to a few musician how great sounding this Axe is, I didn't thought someone will have this kind of cash here, but someone bought it instantly with cash in hand. I have another one Axe II a Mark I, also like new condition"
Finally, after some argue, hi offered me a 50€ refund and the AXE II Mark I. He sent me some photographs of the AXE and it seemed good so I finally agree.
I finally received it. It works perfectly and it's almost new but it's not in the same condition the Mark II was as he told me: there was no manual, no USB cable (don't know if it comes with one from the store) and even no IEC power cable. The box was original (but fairly used) but the packaging no. Also one of the rack ears was damage during shipment and when I asked g66.eu about getting a new one and they asked me the serial number they told me that it was bought directly in the USA so if I have problems in the future I will have to send it to USA as they only service units bought from them (I don't understand that being the sole distributor in the EU). I'm still working with him and the courier to get a reward for the damage during shipment (the shipment was asured).
Yesterday a friend of mine asked me to found another AXE for him and you can imagine the surprise when I saw your message. So what he told me was false! I don't know why he lie me and I don't know when he sold the AXE to your friend but I'm really atonished with his attitude.
So yes, I think what your friend has done it's the best he could.
